Sanrio’s Aggretsuko to get her own Netflix series

UPDATE 08/12/17: Sanrio has uploaded an announcement trailer, which can be found below.

Netflix has revealed that they will be producing a new series starring Sanrio’s Aggressive Retsuko/Aggretsuko, which will be available to view worldwide in 2018.

Sanrio introduced the character back in 2016, who has been appearing in short sketches on TBS’ King’s Brunch show in Japan. As reported on Natalie, the series will be produced by FANWORKS, with episodes written and directed by Rareko.

Retsuko is a 25-year-old red panda who works as an office associate in the accounting department of a trading company in Tokyo. She just wants is to do her job and get through the day, but her superiors and co-workers pile more work for her. Rather than talk back to them, she takes her frustrations out by going to karaoke sessions and singing death metal.

FANWORKS and Rareko also worked on the initial Aggretsuko short sketches that have been airing on TBS (with Rareko voicing Retsuko during her death metal singing). The Netflix series will consist of ten brand new 15-minute episodes and follow Retsuko’s trials and tribulations as she manoeuvres company politics, befriends co-workers, and attempts to maintain a healthy work/life balance.
