The ninth EuroCosplay final took place at MCM London Comic Con and saw a total of 26 cosplayers competing on the main stage. Last year saw Finland walk away as the winner, but after all the points were added up, who would be crowned the EuroCosplay champion for 2018?
The competition was hosted by MCM Community Manager and cosplay guru, Joe “Granny Gertrude” Black.
The panel of judges consisted of Enayla from the USA, Sarcasm-hime Cosplay from Canada, and Jechts from USA. Before narrowing it down to the top three, each judge picked a personal favourite.
Enayla chose Ailyta from Switzerland, cosplaying Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, calling the performance, “one of the funniest, most creative and frankly one of the most relatable skits I’ve ever seen.”
Sarcasm-hime picked Effymia from Estonia, cosplaying Winged Victory Mercy from Overwatch, citing how the costume was “impeccably made in every way” and “really inventive in some of the construction techniques.”
Jechts chose Foxtail from Lithuania as Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, largely for their prop, saying, “It’s one thing to make it properly clean, it’s another to make it dynamic and actually relatively functioning.”
It then came down to the final three.
In third place was Paulches from Russia, cosplaying Scott Ryder from Mass Effect Andromeda.
In second place was LeelooKris Cosplay from France, cosplaying Lagertha from Vikings.
Finally, the EuroCosplay champion in first place was… Don Esteban from Austria cosplaying Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher 3.
“Congratulations to everyone who took part,” said Joe. “You’ve got to remember that they are all victorious, they all won in order to be here.”
