To tie in with the 30th anniversary of Katsuhiro Otomo’s popular manga series Akira next year, Bandai Namco’s Lalabit Market is giving fans the chance to purchase a replica of Kaneda’s legendary capsule jacket. It is the first item to be offered as a part of Bandai Visual’s “A” Project.

Faithfully reproduced with incredible attention to detail, the leather jacket comes in four sizes and will have a limited first-run production. It also comes at an incredible cost of ¥69,800 (which is about $910 / £580). A black 30th-anniversary jacket is also available to purchase for the same price.

With the jacket due to be delivered from January 2012, customers can pre-order now. However, if you’re thinking of purchasing one with the intention of cosplaying as Shotaro Kaneda, it doesn’t look like Lalabit Market will be posting overseas. If you really want to get your hands on one, you better have a good friend in Japan and a huge wad of cash.
